On Friday, the UT administration issued a heat wave notice and detailed department duties.

The advisory has specified real-time surveillance and evaluation of the weather station for the district disaster management unit, dissemination of information received from the IMD to the public, including communicating alerts to ward councilors, disseminating heat-health warnings, determining the threshold for action, communicating the risks, and coordination among stakeholders, including nongovernment and civil society.

Religious places can also help in stepping up efforts and bolstering initiatives, such as distributing fresh drinking water to people.

The health department has been asked to provide 24x7 health facilities with appropriate supplies of essential medicines such as ORS, glucose, and so on. All health facilities must keep designated beds ready in a cool, well-ventilated area. The staff should also be educated on heat stress problems, prevention, and management.
